On the 10-year anniversary of its independence from Serbia, half of Kosovars want to move West. The others want to shape its future.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008. Ten years later, the country’s political situation is among the most complex in the Balkans.
More than 100 countries have recognized Kosovo as an independent state but Serbia and its traditional ally Russia have blocked the country’s path to the United Nations and other international organizations. Five of the EU’s 28 member countries also do not recognize Kosovo.
