On the occasion of the “idea” of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on the “joint president of Albania and Kosovo”, the European Union states that “the statements that can be interpreted as a political interference in neighbouring countries” are counterproductive both in building good neighbourly relations and progress on the path of EU integration of the country region, reports Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).

“Statements that can be interpreted as political interference in neighbouring countries are not helpful in building good neighbourly relations. Instead, the EU expects the entire region to continue building constructive and cooperative relations and boost its own reform processes in order to advance on the path of EU integration,” said European Commission spokeswoman Katherine Ray.

Responding to the statement by some media in Brussels that ideas like the one of Rama, ”resemble a project of Greater Albania” and leads to a “change of borders in the Balkans”, the European Commission reiterates that the EU will continue to support the principles of reconciliation and regional cooperation in the Western Balkans.
“The European Council has emphasized the unequivocal support for a clear European perspective of the region, and we will continue to work with countries on their EU path and for the purpose of better cooperation and relations in the region,” Rey said.
