Nenad Vasic, associate of the Institute for International Politics claims that his proposal for Kosovo has support of official Belgrade, Danas daily reports today.

According to Vasic the only just, compromised and sustainable solution to the Kosovo issue would be creation of a community of the two equal peoples in the political and constitutional-legal aspect. If this idea would come to life, Kosovo would in 2025, along with Serbia become a fully-fledged member of the EU.

According to Danas findings, Vasic’s proposal titled “Platform for solution of Kosovo issue: Serbs and Albanians from majority partition to possible new unification” which is his personal initiative, enjoys the support of the official Belgrade, as a basis on which Serbia’s stance in negotiations on the final Kosovo status could be formed.

The mentioned proposal also received attention from the academic community and Vasic spoke about the topic on January 12, at a conference organized by the Faculty of Political Science in Belgrade.

Vasic also underlined that the basic prerequisite for the permanent resolution of Kosovo issue is the creation of the Association of the Serb Municipalities and adoption of its statute.

“The Association of the Serb Municipalities is a crucial issue of the future Kosovo status, along with the Chapter 35, and Action Plan in Serbia’s EU integration. It should be established by the end of this year. Afterwards, its administrative functionality and political efficiency would be tested (…),” Vasic told Danas.

“If the results would be satisfactory and acceptable, next year political and constitutional-legal status of Kosovo should be considered in a dialogue between Belgrade and Pritina officials,” Vasic added.

Vasic also believes that his proposal could serve as an efficient model in solving interethnic and complicated territorial disputes across the world in a peaceful, agreed and civilized manner, Danas daily reported.
