Frequent unresolved arson attacks on cars owned by police officers, politicians, journalists and entrepreneurs underline the powerlessness of official institutions in the Serb-run north of Kosovo.

“If policemen are not safe, who is?” asks Tatjana Lazarevic, editor-in-chief of the news portal KoSSev, in Serb-run northern Mitrovica, the divided town in northern Kosovo.

Lazarevic is referring to the regular arson, bomb and other violent attacks carried out against police officers, but also politicians, public officials, entrepreneurs and journalists living and working in the Serb-majority north of Kosovo.

In the latest case of car torching frenzy in the north of Kosovo, three automobiles went up in flames in the town of Mitrovica in the early morning hours of Sunday March 25.
