Serbian diplomat, Zoran Milivojevic told RTS that recent threats voiced by Hashim Thaci indicate there is no political will in Pristina to reach a compromise and normalization of relations with Belgrade, therefore forthcoming talks between Serbian President, Aleksandar Vuci and EU leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel are crucial for the continuation of EU integration.

According to Mihajlovic, establishment of the Special Court is one of the reasons for frequent threats that can be heard from Pristina, as Hashim Thaci and Ramush Haradinaj are candidates for this court, while causing tensions is a way to avoid that.

“A meeting with Chancellor Merkel is particularly important as two topics would be dominant: Kosovo and Metohija and EU integration of Serbian and the region as a whole. Enlargement policy is again in the focus of the EU and the bearer of that project is Germany. Serbia has a central place there as it is impossible to round off integration of the Western Balkans without it,” Milivojevic said.
