On the eve of the Greek Foreign Minister’s visit to the Balkans, Greek media quote reliable sources as saying that the Greek government is willing to enable the opening of a diplomatic office of Kosovo in Athens. Belgrade-based Politika daily newspaper reports that Nikos Kotzias intends to mediate in relations between Belgrade and Pristina, and is considering the diplomatic benefits of a Kosovo office in Athens. Politika also reports that the Greek government is not pleased with some actions by the government in Pristina, especially with the arrest of Marko Djuric and the deportation of six Turkish nationals. Protothema, a Greek newspaper, reports that Kotzias’ visit to Kosovo has great diplomatic importance as it tries to remove Turkey’s traditional influence over Kosovo and to create conditions for better relations between Athens and Pristina. “As Greece has not recognized Kosovo yet, the visit by Nikos Kotzias has a positive message,” the paper noted.
