The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, is participating at conference for regional cooperation and EU integration. He expressed conviction that Kosovo will become a NATO and UN member during the second decade of its statehood. “I hope and believe that EU membership will also be possible” Thaci said.
“We are facing five countries which do not recognize independence of Kosovo, however they all hailed Ahtisaari’s document based on which we proclaimed Kosovo a state,” Thaci said.
He said that it is in Serbia’s interest for Russia to recognize independence of Kosovo, as it would remove a major, false burden from Serbia. “Also, in relation with Russia, Russia’s recognition of Kosovo is of vital interest of Balkans and Serbia,” Thaci said.
