Meeting between Thaci and Merkel confirmed (RTK/Lajmi)

The meeting between the President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci and German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been officially confirmed by Berlin. Chancellor Merkel is to meet President Thaci on 9 May in Berlin. According to a statement issued by Merkel’s cabinet, the two officials will discuss bilateral relations as well as issues of regional interest.

Dialogue platform fails to receive green light from Assembly committee (RTK)

Kosovo Assembly’s committee on foreign affairs did not endorse the government’s platform for dialogue with Serbia saying the document is seriously flawed. Chairperson of the committee, Vjosa Osmani from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) said the platform has been poorly prepared and ignores opposition’s remarks.

Thaci decrees border demarcation law (Koha)

President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci has signed the law on border demarcation with Montenegro which the Kosovo Assembly ratified on 21 March. The law has now officially entered into force.

KFOR: KSF transformation only through constitutional changes (Zeri)

KFOR officials reaffirmed to the paper the position that the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) can only happen through constitutional changes as it requires the support of non-majority communities. KFOR officials also remarked that even when the decision on KSF transformation is reached, it will take years before the Kosovo army becomes fully functional.

Families of deported Turks sue Kosovo government (media)

Families of the six Turkish nationals deported from Kosovo have filed a lawsuit against the government of Kosovo for violation of human rights, confirmed Prime Minister of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj. He said the government was taking the issue very seriously. He also said an internal investigation is underway to determine whether Kosovo authorities acted in conformity with the law when arrested and deported the Turkish citizens.
