Kosovo’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gjergj Dedaj, has been sued for his statement made against Turkey. A lawsuit submitted at the Basic Prosecution in Prizren alleging that through his remarks published on social network, Dedaj has violated article 147 of the Criminal Code which speaks about incitement of national, racial, religious, or ethnic hatred. The lawsuit was filed by a member of the Turkish community in Kosovo. Earlier in the week, Dedaj was reported to have accused Serbia and Turkey of attempting to regain control of Kosovo and referred to these countries as “witches of the Balkans”. Representatives of the Turkish community condemned Dedaj’s remarks and called on Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj to dismiss Dedaj. Meanwhile, the government of Kosovo issued a statement condemning Dedaj’s statement and saying it does not represent the position of the government but stopped short of dismissing him. Instead, Koha Ditore reported today that Dedaj is expected to be appointed ambassador to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).
