The United States Department of State has called on Kosovo and Serbia to avoid negative rhetoric and to work together on an agreement that brings stability to both countries and the region. A spokesman for the State Department told Voice of America that “the policy of this administration is clear: the core of any agreement on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia must come from the parties themselves. We will continue to support both sides and the European Union as a facilitator. Kosovo and Serbia must achieve an implementable and stable agreement that does not create instability in any country or the region. This will require prudence and flexibility from both sides. We encourage the parties to assume full ownership of the process, to stop negative rhetoric and to work together constructively”.
