Kosovo’s Minister of Justice, Abelard Tahiri, took to Facebook today to comment on the debate on war veterans following the resignation of a prosecutor of the Special Prosecution of Kosovo who was investigating lists of war veterans. Tahiri said that beyond the political discourse that is used to generate unreasonable discussions, there are two basic positions: Kosovo’s society is grateful to every veteran that made sacrifices for protecting and liberating Kosovo, and second, Kosovo’s society is determined to be a fair, modern and democratic society based on the rule of law. “Investigations into abuses with the lists of veterans should be seen only from a legal standpoint. If there were abuses, the perpetrators must be identified and get the merited punishment … As Minister of Justice and within my legal mandate, I will strongly support independent institutions in investigating this issue to the end in order to restore the dignity of real veterans, before I sign off on anyone’s lists,” Tahiri noted.
