Spain would recognise Kosovo as an independent country in case a final agreement is reached between Pristina and Belgrade but opposes land swap as part of the solution, Insajderi news website quotes a Spanish paper “Moncloa” as reporting. Spanish authorities are said to have been informed about how dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is proceeding and that if a landmark agreement is reached, Spain will move forward by recognising independence of Kosovo. However, the country is against the idea for territorial exchange fearing it could be used as precedent by nationalists in Catalonia. Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell has stated earlier that countries that have not recognised Kosovo would move towards recognition in case Kosovo and Serbia reach agreement but noted that Europe is not a place where homogenous entities should be created.
