Opposition political parties, especially the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and Vetevendosje Movement, are requesting new parliamentary elections. However, this is not expected to happen before the second half of the next year.

Memli Krasniqi, caucus of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), considers it is not time for Kosovo to go for new elections. “LDK is speaking about a motion of distrust at least for five months now, but they neither have the courage nor are they sincere with this statement. Otherwise, let them go ahead and proceed with the motion even today,” Krasniqi said. According to him, any serious political party should at any time be ready for elections. He added that the PDK has the most consolidated structures for any election process.

Valmir Ismaili from “Democracy Plus” organization told Zeri that the position of the political parties is not stable.

“LDK is currently the biggest political party in the country and any initiative coming from them should be taken seriously. Nevertheless, LDK’s votes are not sufficient for this initiative to succeed. Instead, votes of all opposition parties as well as of some MPs who are currently part of the government are required. The current situation at the Assembly of Kosovo is so unclear that it is difficult to say if this motion would succeed or not,” he said.

Ismajli considers that it will be difficult for Haradinaj’s government to remain in power until the end of the mandate. “If we are based on the premise that the former government was brought down due to the lack of sufficient numbers and courage to make major decisions, then the current government should have gone home long time ago. This government neither has the numbers at the Assembly nor the courage (the case of the dialogue, where the Prime Minister himself agreed to leave it in the hands of the President) and it is being kept alive only by trading with political parties, even individuals and all this on population’s expense,” he said.
