Former Kosovo Prime Minister and Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) leader, Isa Mustafa, said today that the government is trying to blame the opposition for delays in the visa liberalization. Mustafa wrote in a Facebook post: “when we called for the ratification of the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro in 2016, as a requirement for visa liberalization but also as an instrument of state sovereignty, the same people that are in power today opposed us and made false claims that we would lose over 8,000 hectares of land. Because of deceits and populist policies, we lost the opportunity then to conclude the visa liberalization process. Now on the eve of elections for the European Parliament, the fear from populism has gone beyond the limits of our deceits and primitivism. There is real fear that certain countries will hesitate to support visa liberalization for Kosovo … Individuals, who today say that visa liberalization may be postponed to 2020, and who are trying to blame the opposition, know very well where the problem lies, but they need to make these attacks in order to justify themselves. Regardless, Kosovo must make maximal efforts to get visa liberalization as soon as possible. We need to guarantee that this country will have good governance and no corruption, that we will develop our economy and create new jobs. We should not install fear that our youths will flee Kosovo”.
