Chief Executive Officer of the municipal administration in Mitrovica North, Adrijana Hodzic assessed that verdict of three years and eight months for a grave murder attempt of K.M. from Gracanica, by her husband, is shameful for the entire judiciary, Radio kontakt plus reports.
In a statement to Radio kontakt plus, Hodzic said that she as a public official and someone who has always supported all activities to fight violence against women, is truly shocked by this verdict, assessing that such verdicts have contra effect on the perpetrators and represent an encouragement that they would not face punishment if they commit violence.
“The verdict for a crime like that is indeed shameful for the entire judiciary. This and similar verdicts for such serious criminal offences represent an encouragement, not a punishment, for all the perpetrators who are committing violence,” Hodzic underlined.
She said the supports the work of the non-governmental organization Women’s Right expressing hope their fight would unite all the women against violence.
Ruzica Simic, Women’s Right Director earlier last week sent a protest letter, saying she is appalled by the mild verdict in K.M. case and explanation provided by a judge in this case.
