Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs, Nebojsa Stefanovic told RTS there are legal, police and political arguments pointing that the membership of so-called Kosovo in Interpol would constitute a precedent.
Stefanovic made these remarks, speaking for the RTS Saturday news edition, adding that for a year now, Serbia is intensively stressing to all the states in the world how much it would be detrimental to allow Kosovo to become Interpol member.
“In addition to the UN SC Resolution 1244, other acts clearly stipulate that Kosovo is neither a state, nor member of the UN, nor it has observer status there, something that is a prerequisite for Interpol membership,” Stefanovic said.
He added, there are also many police reasons such as concerns that Interpol database could be leaked to some terrorist structures, and these databases contain information about persons suspected of committing the most serious criminal offenses of not only organized crime but terrorism as well.
According to Stefanovic, sometimes political reasoning of some states that support Kosovo membership in Interpol prevail over professional reasoning.
Professional organizations must not allow politicization and must not be guided with arguments different than high professional standards, Stefanovic underlined.
He also stressed it is no coincidence that one of the staff members of the consulate of so-called Kosovo in USA is arrested as a member of a group of seven persons who tried to sell automatic weapon, including a rocket launcher to a criminal gang from Mexico territory.
