US Deputy Assistant Secretary Hoyt: We are here to show support for Kosovo (Klan Kosova)
In an interview for Klan Kosova, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Hoyt Yee said he was in Kosovo to show support for the new president Hashim Thaci and Kosovo. He said the inauguration ceremony for President Hashim Thaci is a good opportunity to meet Kosovo leadership. Speaking about normalization of Pristina-Belgrade relations, Hoyt said dialogue is one of the most important developments in the region and that it is the only way forward for both Kosovo and Serbia. The US official also spoke about the special court saying that it is very important for Kosovo and countries in the region to provide justice by punishing crimes. He said the goal of the special court is to disperse clouds of suspicion over Kosovo. “If these crimes are not addressed properly, this could linger over Kosovo and if not cleared, this would hinder the country towards European Union integration.” Hoyt called on Kosovo politicians to renounce violence, tear gas and Molotov cocktails. “It is important to understand that while the countries in the region are moving ahead, Kosovo is not only stalling but sometimes even experiencing setbacks with irresponsible actions of politicians,” said Hoyt. He added that the elected political leaders should do the work they were elected for. “We want to see less corruption and more jobs,” said the US Deputy Assistant Secretary.
