Serbia absent at meeting for European Convention in Pristina (Klan Kosova)
The Council of Europe in cooperation with the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, organized an international conference in Pristina on the “Interpretation and implementation of the European Convention for human rights by the Constitutional Courts in Western Balkans.” In addition to the judges of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, those of the Constitutional Courts of Croatia, Albania and Montenegro also participated in the conference, whilst Serbian representatives failed to attend. Kosovo’s Minister of Justice, Hajredin Kuci, participated in the conference. He said that Kosovo’s case in this field is particular, as it is not a member of the Council of Europe and as a consequence, is not a signing party of the Convention. However he declared that this did not represent a reason for which the European Convention for human rights should not be applied in Kosovo. The President of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, Arta Rama Hajrizi, stated that all obligations deriving from this Convention are integrated in Kosovo’s legal system. She also mentioned several cases when the Constitutional Court decided based on the principals of this convention and judicial practices of the European Court for human rights.
