Serbia Seeks Russian Role in Kosovo Talks (BIRN)

Aleksandar Vucic says he has asked Serbia's ally, Russia, to join the Kosovo negotiations if the US also joins the table – and President Vladimir Putin has indicated his willingness to do so.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he had asked Russia to join the negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo, if the US attempts to join the dialogue, and President Vladimir Putin had agreed to do so.

“I asked if Russia would become a mediator, and the Russian President agreed,” Vucic said after meeting the Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, Beta news agency reported on Wednesday.

Vucic said Serbia wanted Russia included in the negotiations if Kosovo insists on including the US.

The Kremlin did not comment on the possibility of Russia mediating the negotiations but spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the topic of Kosovo was “thoroughly processed” during Putin's and Vucic’s talks.
