Pushkov: We are not against border correction (Politika, Radio kontakt plus)
Russian Senator, Aleksey Pushkov said he sees no reason why Russia would oppose correction of borders as a solution to the Kosovo issue, adding that Moscow supports what Serbia thinks it is right for it, Radio kontakt plus reports.
“There is the Russian stance made public long ago, and it has not changed, we support what Serbia thinks it is right for it,” Pushkov told Politika daily.
Pushkov who is also a Chair of the Commission for Information Policy and Media Cooperation at the Upper House of the Russian Parliament underlined he has never heard Moscow is against a solution that is proposed by the Serbian authorities.
“If Serbia agrees on correction, I see no slightest reason why Russia would oppose that. During the talks of our presidents, heads of diplomacy, there could be different variants, but it does not mean that Russia is against Serbia’s plan. I repeat, I have never heard any Russian official saying against the plan on delineation. It is another issue, how much is this plan achievable,” Pushkov added.
Asked why it cannot be achieved, he responded there are parts where Serbs live and that can not be “taken out” from Kosovo.
“Second, would Albanians agree to correction, and third, we must take into consideration stance of the EU and USA. Moscow would support the Serbian Government in solutions that Serbia deem as possible, achievable and needed, respectively optimal solution. This is the real Russian position,” Pushkov underlined.
