NATO Chief comments on “border correction” idea (BETA, B92)
NATO strongly supports Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and when it comes to “possible harmonization of borders” it hopes the two sides would find mutually acceptable solution, BETA news agency reports.
According to BETA, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this in Brussels, before the session of NATO diplomacy chiefs, who would, together with EU High Representative Federica Mogherini on Wednesday discuss “NATO’s relations with Western Balkans countries.”
Responding to a journalist’s question if the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is concerned over the consequences that solution in Belgrade-Pristina dialogue which would involve “some border corrections” could have on security, Stoltenberg said “that NATO strongly supports Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, as it is the only way to find answers to unresolved issues.”
He also reminded, he pointed out an extraordinary importance of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue during his recent visit in Belgrade.
“When it comes to possible harmonization of borders, I emphasize that NATO supports dialogue and I hope both sides would find a solution that is acceptable to the both, Belgrade and Pristina,” Stoltenberg said.
According to him, “it is very important that all stakeholders refrain from provocative acts and messages, as well as try to reduce tensions and make progress.”
He underlined “NATO would continue its presence in Kosovo, operative Mission KFOR is there, that is very significant for the stability.”
“KFOR would continue to be impartial in order to make sure stability and security would be guaranteed and the progress towards political efforts will be made in order to reach solution trough political negotiations,” NATO Secretary General said.
