Scott: No red lines for Kosovo, Reeker has no solution (Tanjug, B92)
US Ambassador in Serbia, Kyle Scott said Washington does not draw ‘red lines’ when it comes to the resolution of the Kosovo issue, B92 reports.
Speaking for Belgrade-based Kurir, Ambassador Scott noted any solution the two sides agree about would be supported, but the solution should be implantable and lasting.
“We are not drawing ‘the red lines’, we do not decide on what would happen, if what they agree about can contribute to stabilizing the region, if it can be implementable and lasting, then we would probably support it. We are waiting for the sides to reach an agreement under EU auspices,” Scott was quoted as saying.
Asked about the role of a newly appointed person in the US administration responsible for the Balkans, Philip Reeker, Scott noted Reeker has no solution for Kosovo, as it was speculated over the last couple of days.
“I am afraid, the Serbian press speculates freely, without any facts to substantiate it. Philip Reeker would in the mid of this month take over the position of the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia Chief, and he would have many things on his agenda, including relations with Russia, Turkey, EU and many other challenges (…). He was in the Balkans, and he is committed to moving this process ahead, but I do not believe that he has a plan in his pocket or that he would force anyone doing anything,” Scott said.
He added the agreement on the Belgrade-Pristina relations would have to include many other things, including the agreement on economic relations, resolving the status of the Serbian Orthodox Church, missing persons issue and war crimes.
“There are many elements that must be included in the agreement, however we believe that mutual recognitions must lay in the heart of the agreement on normalization,” Ambassador Scott said.
