Kosovo HLC: Establishment of international court for Serbian crimes in Kosovo not possible (TV N1, BETA, RTK2)
Director of the Kosovo Humanitarian Law Centre (HLC) Bekim Blakaj said today he understands the motives of the Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli wanting the justice two decades after the conflict, adding he considers that the establishment of the international court is not possible, BETA news agency reports.
“The International Court should be established by the United Nations and I seriously doubt that such an initiative from Kosovo would get the support of the UN,” Blakaj told RTK2.
He said his recommendation is to try to negotiate within Belgrade-Pristina dialogue about possibilities for cooperation between the war crimes prosecutions in Serbia and Kosovo.
“I believe this way more people would get prosecuted. For us it does not matter that much whether it takes place in Serbia or Kosovo, it is important that those who have committed crimes face the justice and victims get the justice,” Blakaj said.
