“Peace needed more than money” (Radio KIM)

“Serbs in Pomoravlje, but also south of the Ibar River need peace more than money,” analyst Ljubomir Stanojkovic said, commenting on the announcement of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that Serbia would invest RSD 9.5 billion in Serb areas in Kosovo, RTV KIM reports. Journalist Darko Dimitrijevic claims Serbia has invested for years in Metohija, however “transparency and quality of such investments is disputable topic.” Speaking about the amount of investment, Stanojkovic opined it is unrealistically high, around EUR 80 million. According to Stanojkovic Vucic’s main advisors, when it comes to the position of Serbs in Kosovo are people engaged in construction and infrastructure business, and this is what gets priority when one thinks about investments that improve the lives of the Serb community. He went on saying that such type of investment is not needed in Pomoravlje at the moment, because, according to him, Serbs south of the Ibar River need peace more. He explained that both Serbs and Albanians are leaving Kosovo, because they do not see future here. Radio Gorazdevac Editor-in-Chief Darko Dimitrijevic said Serbia invested in Metohija for years, however, he considers a big part of the investments was misused, since there is no progress on the ground. Dimitrijevic thinks it is important to invest in young people, economically support them and help them “to be able to live decently from their own work and remain in their places.” “However, nobody invested in young people, and as the result we have increased and more frequent departure of the young people, total apathy and disappointment among the population,” Dimitrijevic said.
