Kosovo Football Association calls police to stop Red Star playing in Mitrovica (KoSSev, N1)

Kosovo Football Association Secretary Erol Salihu said on Thursday that he asked the Kosovo police and customs service to prevent the Red Star Belgrade football team from entering Kosovo next week, the KoSSev news portal reported.

The Red Star team are scheduled to play a Serbia Cup game against the Trepca team in North Mitrovica on September 25.

Salihu said that the Kosovo Football Association has filed a complaint with FIFA and UEFA, recalling that it had done the same this summer when the Trepca team refused to play in the Kosovo championship, choosing to play in the Serbian League West.

“FIFA and UEFA should immediately prevent the participation of Kosovo clubs in Serbian Football Association competitions. The situation will escalate if Trepca FC plays in the Serbian League, something that the government, police and other officials will not tolerate,” a Kosovo football Association statement said at the time.

The Kosovo Football Association also called international football organizations to force the Serbian association to change its status so that Kosovo is no longer a part of it.
