Serbia will recognize Kosovo (Vesti)
President of the newly formed Statehood Movement, and former high official of the Democratic Party of Serbia, Serbia Slobodan Samardzic believes that incumbent Serbian leadership will make the ‘latest 100th step’, under the pressure of Brussels, and recognize independent Kosovo. He added that such commitment is provided in the point 12 of the negotiation framework for the EU accession.
“When someone like Serbian authorities makes ninety nine steps in certain direction, be sure that they will make and the latest one, the 100th, by which they will recognize independent Kosovo,” Samardzic said.
He told Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik that Serbian authorities have an obligation to sign a so-called legally binding agreement with Pristina. “That is actually agreement on mutual recognition. Such obligation is provided in point 12 of the negotiation framework for Serbia’s accession into the EU,” said Samardzic and added that it is well known that Serbian authorities have already accepted the negotiation framework.
He also said that the news that Brussels will face Serbia with condition: either Kosovo or Europe, which was recently made public by the President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic, is not the exclusive one but that exclusiveness should be given to what would Nikolic do when faced with long-known ultimatum of the EU. He went on to say that it is worrying that alleged news, which is old more than six years, is presented in a form of President Nikolic’s private opinion.
