Lead Prosecutor of the Special Investigative Task Force (SITF) that investigates war crimes and organized crime allegations deriving from the Council of Europe special rapporteur Dick Marty’s report, David Schwendiman, said to Danas that amendments and the law adopted by the Kosovo parliament on 3 August provides that SITF lead prosecutor could be appointed as a special prosecutor.

Schwendiman avoided confirming writing of Pristina-based media that he will be appointed at the post of the special prosecutor of the special court, with the most probable seat in Hague, Netherlands.

“According to the law that was adopted by the Kosovo parliament, article 35, paragraph 6, the office of the special prosecutor would be established, and relevant body could appoint SITF lead prosecutor at the post of the special prosecutor. Special prosecutor is the official title of the lead prosecutor that will be responsible for topics that will be presented in front of the special court. Other persons are involved in the work of implementation of this law, in the meantime SITF continues with its work, and I am discharging my duties of the SITF lead prosecutor,” explained Schwendiman who was appointed as SITF lead prosecutor last year.

Kosovo parliament adopted in early August, under the pressure of the West, in the second voting by extraordinary procedure the law on special relations and office of the special prosecutor.
