West – time not ripe for Kosovo army (Blic)
The most powerful Western states consider that time is not ripe yet for creation of the Kosovo army and that Pristina should not carry it out without agreement with Belgrade, Blic reported.
Paper quotes high diplomatic sources from Western states in Pristina who are supporting existing Kosovo Security Forces, but not its transformation into ‘Kosovo Armed Forces’ in a nearby future. “It is true that Kosovo will, at some point in the future, create its armed forces, however that won’t happen soon. First of all, this topic has to be the part of the process of normalization of relations with Belgrade. We won’t approve Pristina’s unilateral decisions,” Blic quotes high diplomatic sources in Pistina, who also stressed that it would be of a key importance that Pristina reaches a broad consensus among Serbs from Kosovo for the future army.
“Brussels Agreement with Belgrade, creation of the A/CSM and particularly special war crimes court for Kosovo Liberation Army, have caused a real storm in radical circles in Kosovo, whereas Mustafa and Thaci have been targeted with accusations for treason and similar. Announcements about creation of Kosovo army, serve for redirecting attention from compromises reached with Serbs,” explained paper’s source.
