Kosovo to remain with asterisk (Politika)
Adoption of the amendment of the Law on Stabilization Association Agreement by the Kosovo parliament, which was not supported by the Serbian List, doesn’t mean that Pristina would be presented at international gatherings as the Republic of Kosovo. Amendment on the Law on ratification of the SAA, which provides that Kosovo would be presented as Republic of Kosovo, instead of Kosovo with asterisk won’t have any legal consequences, claims Minister for Communities and Return in the Kosovo government Dalibor Jevtić.
“Amendment does not refer to the official document which was signed on 27 October in Strasbourg by the Prime Minister of Kosovo Isa Mustafa and the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini. Original text of the agreement will stay as it is and nothing has being changed in it. If there would be any changes, the agreement would have to be verified again in Brussels, what will not happen and no one in the Kosovo government even thinks about it,” explained Jevtić to Belgrade-based daily Politika, and added that this agreement will provide return of more Serbs and repossession of usurped property of Kosovo Serbs.
Deputy Kosovo Prime Minister Branimir Stojanović said that implementation of the agreement is very important for Serbs, because it is linked with implementation of the Brussels agreement. He further said that this was the principle motive for Serb MPs supporting the SAA, and explained that this document at the same time means additional obligation for all Kosovo institutions, which need to be reformed. He also added that concrete effects of this document are yet to be seen since according to him the EU should exert bigger pressure on Pristina aimed at implementing agreements.
