Scott: I hope the compromise between Belgrade and Pristina will be reached ''perhaps this year'' (RTS)
US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott told Radio Television Serbia (RTS) that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina should enter a more intensive phase and expresses the hope that the compromise will be reached "perhaps even this year".
Scott told RTS that neither Belgrade nor Pristina will get everything they want, but that it is important that both sides come to a compromise.
"That's why this dialogue that leads the EU is so important. I think it has to go into a more intensive phase, I hope that there will be a compromise, maybe even this year," Scott says.
The Ambassador adds that the recent statement that the United States want to encourage Belgrade and Pristina to reach a compromise "part of the current foreign policy of the United States" and stresses that he does not consider that the compromise is an ugly word but that compromises are the pillar of international politics.
Speaking about the relations between the United States and Serbia, Scott recalls that on the White House 100 years ago, that is, on July 28, 1918, for the first time, one flag fluttered - a Serbian flag.
"This is the first time in our history; only twice in history was the foreign flag on the White House, which was a sign of President Woodrow Wilson of showing respect to the Serbian people sacrifice in World War I," Scott says reminding that the other foreign flag on the White House was the French one.
