Judiciary in the north ready to work with Kosovo laws (RFE)
Radio Free Europe reports that after more than two years since being signed, the justice agreement between Pristina and Belgrade is finally beginning to be implemented in the north of Kosovo. This is hoped will end the activity of parallel courts in the northern municipalities which until now worked based on Serbia’s legislation.
Chief prosecutor of Mitrovica Basic Prosecution, Shyqyri Syla said he believed that the integration of non-majority judges and prosecutors to the Kosovo judicial system would help in a more efficient fight against crime in the north of Kosovo and that the first results would be seen very soon. At the same time, the head of the Court of Appeals in Mitrovica, Milan Bigovic, said the work has already begun but that there is a huge backlog of cases the staff has to deal with.
