Dacic: Peru recognized Kosovo; however, it supports us in Security Council (RTS, TV N1)
Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic assessed his visit to Peru as of historic importance, since it is in the interest of Serbia to renew relations with this country, RTS reports. He added, strategic relations between the two countries and Serbia’s presence in this region are the most important topics to discuss.
“From such friendly relations a friendly attitude related to the problems Serbia has with Kosovo would come out,” Dacic noted. He recalled that Peru has frozen its decision on the recognition of Kosovo, same as Egypt, and it cannot be counted among those supporting Kosovo.
He also reminded that former Yugoslavia had exceptional relations with Peru and this country was one of its strongest political and economic allies in America. According to Dacic over the last years a stagnation in relations occurred resulting in Peru swiftly recognizing unilaterally declared Kosovo independence.
He pointed out to positive developments in relations with Peru since 2015. “They practically have a status of frozen recognition. It means they did recognize Kosovo in 2008 under US influence, but carried out no other act, they did not establish diplomatic relations, and since 2015 they do not vote for Kosovo to become a member of international organizations, they did not vote for Kosovo in UNESCO and Interpol,” Dacic explained.
TV N1 reported that FM Dacic also opened Serbia's consulate in the Peruvian capital Lima,
