PDK-LDK agreement signed (koha.net, Gazeta Blic)

The leaders of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) have now signed the agreement which enables the creation of new institutions.
Hashim Thaci, leader of the PDK, stated that they signed the agreement for the governing coalition between the PDK and LDK for the years 2014 – 2018. They also agreed on the names that would lead government departments.

Fatmir Limaj: Individual bargaining happened today (Gazeta Blic)

Fatmir Limaj, leader of the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA,) made a harsh statement after the conclusion of the session of the Assembly of Kosovo. “Now I can say why the session was delayed so much: This shows that individual bargaining was going on. Kadri Veseli’s nomination for the Assembly Speaker is only an accommodation that PDK made to this individual and nothing more…We will work for this not to last,” said Limaj.

A senior member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), preferring to remain anonymous, told the news website that the majority of PDK members don't want Isa Mustafa, the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), to be the new Prime Minister of Kosovo. The source also said that even if the PDK gives away the Prime Minister post it will insist that Mustafa should not get it. "If the LDK will not back down on the Prime Minister's post, then the PDK will insist that neither Hashim Thaci nor Isa Mustafa should get the post.

Ban Ki-moon criticizes the political blockade in Kosovo (gazetablic)

The report of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, for the period 16 June to 15 October 2014, published today on the UN internet page, stresses that “the main political developments are related to the failure to establish the new Parliament of Kosovo, after the general elections of 8 June 2014.”

Ban also stresses that he is “especially concerned about the prolonged political blockade in Pristina and its negative impact in the progress reached so far on strengthening the democratic institutions and processes in Kosovo.”

It is no longer a secret that Thaci doesn’t want to be left out of the new government. Seeing that President Jahjaga doesn’t plan to give away her post and that she enjoys U.S. support, the PDK leader has decided to offer his highest offer to the LDK.

TI: Kosovo and Albania share 11th slot on Corruption Index (Gazeta Blic, Koha)

In its annual ranking, corruption watchdog Transparency International, has listed Kosovo on the 110 place, an improvement from last year’s 111. Albania has also been ranked 110th while other countries in the region have received better rankings. Macedonia is in the 64th place, followed by Montenegro in 76th, Serbia 78th and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 80th place.  The Corruption Perceptions Index report includes 175 world countries.

Coalition partners, Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), namely the parties’ working groups, are set to meet today and agree on division of ministerial posts. According to Gazeta Blic, it is almost certain and that the agreement will be reached before Wednesday when the PDK leader, Hashim Thaci, is to travel to New York to attend the UN Security Council session.

When Hashim Thaci, leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), and Isa Mustafa, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), met with Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga three days ago, the latter had expected that they had already resolved everything and the Assembly session would be held within 48 hours, writes GazetaBlic. But it did not happen. Presidency sources told Gazeta Blic that Jahjaga was surprised when Mustafa said that they needed time - almost two weeks, in order to compile the program and make the selection of ministers of the two parties.
