Haradinaj reacts on the arrest of AAK official (Gazeta Blic)

Ramush Haradinaj, the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), reacted on the arrest of the AAK official, saying that when state security instruments arrest a member of the Presidency of an opposition party, it cannot be called anything but a systematic terror of power towards the voice of the opposition. On the evening of May 8th, the police forces of Macedonia entered Divo Naselje, a part of the northern city of Kumanovo. According to official sources, the police had information on a terrorist group hiding in some of the houses in this ethnically-mixed part of town, planning to attack state institutions.

Prosecutor from the Kosovo Special Prosecution, Ali Rexha, said that an autopsy will be performed on the bodies of nine Kosovo men killed in Kumanovo on 9 and 10 May once they are handed over to Kosovo authorities. Rexha however explained that he is waiting for an autopsy request from the families of the killed persons before issuing such an order.

Resignations of FYROM ministers, according to the Skopje-based news outlet Libertas, have surprised the public opinion. According to unnamed diplomatic sources, the resignation process was sped up by a meeting at the US Embassy in Skopje. In the meeting, the two resigned officials – Gordana Jankulovska and Saso Miajlkov, were given recorded telephone conversations between the staff of the FYROM intelligence service and the armed men in Kumanovo.

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli commented today on the recent events that took place in Kumanovo, FYROM. Although he stressed that problems in FYROM are not Kosovo’s he said he shared the pain of the families affected by the recent clashes in Kumanovo. In a meeting with heads of political parties represented at the Assembly, Veseli also spoke about the special court but neither denied nor confirmed reports that Assembly will vote on the court’s establishment on 21 May. He said it is important to have consensus on the issue and maintain partnership with international community.

Increased international pressure on PDK over special court! (Gazeta Blic)

Citing international sources, the news site reports that the Kosovo Assembly will hold a plenary session on May 20 and vote on the establishment of the special court that is expected to address war crimes allegations. “There is increased pressure on the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). Representatives of the opposition said they would vote against the court. So now all the pressure is now on the PDK, led by Hashim Thaci and Kadri Veseli, especially after even some PDK MPs said they would vote against the court,” the source said.

Special court to be voted this month (Gazeta Blic)

International sources said that it is most likely the establishment of the special court will be put to vote at the Kosovo Assembly during May, namely between 21 and 25 May. “The special court will be established before 26 May which is when the UN Security Council meeting has been scheduled for,” said the unnamed source adding that Kosovo leaders have been informed that the court will have to be voted before this date. At the same time, apart from opposition MPs, a number of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) members have announced they will vote against the court’s establishment.
