KLA veterans protest in front of Kosovo government building (media)

Several news sites report that around 50 war veterans of the former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) are protesting in front of the Kosovo government building in Pristina. Gazeta Blic reports that some war veterans threw bottles at Deputy Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and called him “thief” as he was entering the government premises. Indeksonline reports that some war veterans are inciting others to start a riot and a war veteran was reportedly heard telling others to fetch gasoline “in order to set the government building on fire”.

Florim Zeqa criticizes in his opinion piece the current Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, for not keeping the promises made during the election campaign. Mentioning the promises to reduce the governing cabinet, return of the Dardanian flag and change of Kosovo’s anthem, fighting of those who have caught up Kosovo as well as the organized crime to the promise for economic development and creation of 120 thousand jobs, Zeqa writes that not only that the promises have not been kept, but Mustafa is doing the opposite.

PDK’s plan to establish the special court! (Gazeta Blic)

The news site reports that the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has developed a detailed plan on how to resubmit the constitutional amendments and to make sure that the Kosovo Assembly will adopt the special court. A source close to the process told Gazeta Blic that the constitutional amendment will most probably be resubmitted to the Assembly this week. “The Assembly will then meet on Friday to vote on the special court,” the source added. He also said that Prime Minister Isa Mustafa can call an extraordinary session of the Assembly.

“The Americans want Jahjaga to have another mandate as Kosovo President” (Gazeta Blic)

Citing unnamed international sources, the news site reports that Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga enjoys great support to have another mandate in office. “The Americans want to keep Jahjaga as President of Kosovo for another mandate. In fact, they’re already working on this,” the international source said.

Thaci’s dangerous game with the special court! Internationals are angry (Gazeta Blic)

Delays in the establishment of the special court are seen as a dangerous game played by Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader Hashim Thaci. A senior foreign diplomat in Pristina told the news site that international officials are concerned over Thaci’s actions. The diplomat also said that although the PDK leader says in public and in meetings with different diplomats that he is trying to secure enough votes for the special court, international officials are no longer trusting that Thaci is serious about the matter.

The news site published an editorial writing that so much was discussed about the consequences that would bring the rejection of the establishment of the special court, that it was created an impression that everyone was afraid of what was going to happen next. “However, the rejection of the special court didn’t bring the apocalypse in Kosovo. Everyone resumed their lives normally. Two weeks after the decision, and everyone is thinking about summer holidays. No international friend has unfriended Kosovo,” notes the editorial.

At a joint press conference of the newly-elected president of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Ilkka Kanerva and the outgoing Secretary General Spencer Oliver at the closing of the Assembly’s 2015 Annual Session, a journalist asked when would Kosovo be allowed to participate in OSCE forums to which the speakers replied, “Kosovo will be accepted to OSCE in a not so distant future”.

Status of sexual violence victims to soon be recognised (Gazeta Blic)

President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga convened a meeting today of the National Council for Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War in an effort to finalise the regulation for verification of the status of victims of sexual violence. Jahjaga said the recognition of the status of victims is an important step forward and urged the government of Kosovo to set up a relevant commission as soon as possible. To this, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Arban Abrashi, said the commission will be established soon and the verification process will begin this year.

Clashes within PDK over special court vote! (Gazeta Blic)
