Rakić denies the construction of the wall along the Ibar/Ibër River (KIM radio)

North Mitrovica Mayor Goran Rakić has rejected claims of the Mayor of South Mitrovica Agim Bahtiri that a wall is being built along the Ibar/Ibër River, that supposedly was not a part of the agreement on the revitalization of the bridge.

Rakic says it's not about wall but the promenade along the river.

"All works here are in accordance with the agreement reached in Brussels," said Rakić.

Mitrovica Municipality staff led by Mayor Agim Bahtiri held a protest today calling for the immediate release of the Kosovo Police director for Mitrovica region, Nehat Thaçi, arrested last week by Serbian authorities on charges of terrorism. Bahtiri called on the government of Kosovo to suspend dialogue with Serbia until Thaçi is released from detention. “Today this is only a protest of the municipality staff but if he [Thaçi] is not released it will turn into a powerful protest”, warned Bahtiri.

Mayor of Mitrovica South Agim Bahtiri, during a meeting with representatives of UNHCR in Kosovo has sought to resolve the problem of 12 thousand Albanians displaced from the north, who now live as refugees in the south. Bahtiri said it is not fair and human that it is not being discussed at all for the return of around 12 thousand Albanians from the northern neighborhoods of the town, who, according to him, were forcefully displaced by the Serbs.

Bahtiri: EU to complete its mission regarding Ibër/Ibar Bridge (Epoka)

Mayor of Mitrovica South, Agim Bahtiri, told the paper the European Union must complete its mission regarding the revitalization of the Ibër/Ibar River Bridge. “The EU must finish its mission in this aspect because it is a signatory and guarantor of the agreement. We ask that the revitalization process of Ibër/Ibar River Bridge to be completed in the best way possible while not creating tensions,” Bahtiri said. However, he said the revitalization of the Ibër/Ibar Bridge has remained hostage of setting the administrative border.

Mitrovica municipal building attacked with Kalashnikov (GazetaExpress)

The Mitrovica South municipal building was attacked with Kalashnikov on Thrusday morning, causing material damages. The mayor, Agim Bahtiri, confirmed the attack and said that such criminal acts aim to destabilizing the current situation. “The time of Kalashnikov in Kosovo, especially in Mitrovica, has passed long ago, no one can hinder my work,” Bahtiri said. The news site reports that the attack comes just one day after the former guards of the parking lot broke the windows of municipality’s official vehicles.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) branch in Mitrovica, through a press release today condemned the attack with Kalashnikov on municipal building in Mitrovica. “This incident is unacceptable and the relevant authorities must shed light on this case as soon as possible. At the same time, the PDK considers that this situation is a result of actions and tricks of Mayor Agim Bahtiri. The citizens are tired of his unfulfilled promises for employment and welfare.

Bahtiri: I will resign if Mitrovica’s borders are changed (Klan Kosova)
