The US Ambassador in Belgrade, Kyle Scott said today there are no guarantees Washington would accept just any solution reached by Belgrade and Pristina, TV N1 reports.

Ambassador Scott noted the American administration is open to every solution that the two sides reach but added that this does not guarantee support for the solution from Washington “because we don’t know what we’re talking about”.

“A local solution is the best solution. Only a solution by the Serbian and Kosovo side will be lasting and can be implemented,” Ambassador Scott said.

Serbian Trade and Telecommunication Minister, Rasim Ljajic told Prva TV he does not expect Pristina-Belgrade agreement to be reached in the forthcoming months.

Commenting on media reports that USA President Trump praised Serbia and USA under his administration changed the attitude toward Serbia, Ljajic noted that change is evident.

“(…) That stance is reflected in one sentence, try to make an agreement, we have nothing against it, and the final assessment we will give once the agreement is reached,” Ljajic added.

Today's edition of Belgrade based daily Vecernje Novosti writes that there is less chance of fulfilling the Brussels plan to end the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina before the beginning of 2019, the article adds that Serbia does not adhere to a dictated solution and that the discussion about demarcation is not a taboo topic any more.

It seems that a solution to the Kosovo issue will not be found either in 2018 or in early 2019, "despite the wishes of the international community." Belgrade-based press is saying this in articles published on Tuesday.

Daily Blic said it learned from diplomatic sources that "pressure from western countries to solve the open issue between Serbia and Kosovo is slowly waning."

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic began on Monday her visit to New York, where she will attend the UN General Assembly, by meeting with US Senator Ron Johnson, B92 reports. Johnson is chair of the US Senate Homeland Security Committee and of the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation.

During the talks, PM Brnabic said she would use her visit to the United States and participation in the general debate at the UN General Assembly to discuss with world leaders Serbia's achievements in political and economic reforms, the Serbian Government announced.

It wouldn’t be wise to “deposit” negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, especially not until there is something tangible which could end that process, USA Ambassador in Belgrade Kyle Scott said.

Speaking for FoNet news agency, Scott added the USA is not directly involved in the Serbia-Kosovo talks, which are mediated by the European Union, and he emphasized it was necessary to focus on “a comprehensive agreement and solutions.”

The highest Serbian and Kosovo officials are currently staying in New York, where the United Nations General Assembly is taking place. The Serbian delegation is led by Serbian Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dacic. Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Behgjet Pacolli, lead the Kosovo delegation, KoSSev portal reports.

More than 400 people from Kosovo joined terrorist organizations in Syria and Iraq in 2017, the US State Department said in its Country Reports on Terrorism 2017, adding that 74 of them died there and more than 130 returned home.

The authors of the report said that Kosovo continued fighting the growing threat of terrorism with the government implementing a new counter-terrorism strategy and an updated action plan to combat violent extremism.

Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic said a solution for Kosovo and Metohija is not on the table and it should be patiently looked for, FoNet news agency reported,

Dacic made these remarks in a conference “Western Balkan Security Challanges and Serbia” organized by the Centre for Foreign Policy in Belgrade.

“An idea on delineation that was presented is an option Aleksandar Vucic publicly mentioned and it should yet be a topic of discussion, since the talks did not move ahead in the sense of something concrete, but ideas and options were presented,” Dacic noted.
