Made in Kosovo: when organic hits a ceiling (UNDP Eurasia)

In 1998, Štrpce/Shtërpcë, in southern Kosovo*, saw the arrival of 900 displaced Kosovo Serbs and refugees from Croatia. Two decades on, the town is peaceful and well-integrated. And the area around it has become a virtual breadbasket. It boasts intensely flavored raspberries, fine goat cheese, a nascent pork industry, and delicacies like honey and fresh herbal teas.

UNDP donates search and rescue tools to emergency units (Koha)

Continuing with the assistance for the flood affected areas, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through its Disaster Risk Reduction project, provided search and rescue tools for Gllogoc/Glogovac and Malishevë/Mališevo municipalities. The activity is part of the recovery efforts for the flooding that severely affected these two municipalities in January 2016, and again this fall.

Kosovo Police remains the most trusted institution (Kosovapress)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kosovo today published the Public Pulse report on corruption. According to this report, Kosovo Police continues to be the most trusted institution in Kosovo. The report also notes that based on 1,300 respondents, 58 percent believe that corruption has increased in the last 12 months in Kosovo while 12 percent think it was reduced. Most respondents believe that the most corrupt institutions are the central ones.

UNDP presents Human Development Report (Koha Ditore)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented yesterday in Pristina two reports: Making the Labour Market Work for Women and Youth and Risk-Proofing the Western Balkans: Empowering People to Prevent Disasters. The report on the labour market for women and youth highlights that the widespread unemployment and passivity leaves an ample amount of human potential unused, misused or underused.

UNDP encourages interethnic trust through protection of cultural monuments (Klan Kosova)

As part of the Confidence Building through Cultural Protection project implemented by the UNDP and EU, Albanian and Serb youths came together and visited the Orthodox Church in Kamenica where they learnt of the investments in protection of cultural heritage. Nilgun Arif, project manager, said the project will be implemented in several municipalities and is aimed at encouraging interethnic trust through protection of cultural sites. The group also visited the Kamenica mosque, which will undergo restoration work.

Kosovo has "huge structural problems related to employment" (B92)

UNDP coordinator in Kosovo Andrew Russell has told B92 TV that the problems in Kosovo are the same as in the rest of the region, but that there are enormous structural problems relating to employment. However, he added that thousands of jobs have been created, including for Kosovo Serbs and other minorities.
