The EastWest Institute, together with the National Committee on American Foreign Policy issued a report examining the need for immediate, decisive action by the United States and the European Union to address pressing issues and prevent potential conflict in the Western Balkans. The Western Balkans—Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Albania, and Serbia—are once again an area of concern owing to deficient internal governance, economic challenges, intraregional ethnic frictions and external influences.

Former USA Ambassador to Serbia, Cameron Munter, who is now heading the The East-West Institute, said he is an optimist, seeing the people in the region having the spirit and willingness to resolve the issues, shared by all, Tanjug news agency reported.

In that sense, he particularly mentioned Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic.

Munter believes that the crucial solution must come from the people and leadership in the region.

Former USA Ambassador to Serbia, Cameron Munter and the President of the East-West Institute, stated to Tanjug news agency that the initiation of an internal dialogue on Kosovo is an excellent initiative and expressed hope it would be successful.

“This is a very welcome decision. I think Serbia and Kosovo are ready to talk about the future within the EU, not only leadership but ordinary people as well.”

Munter stated that the East-West Institute, wants to help in this process, and they are opening a regional office in Belgrade.
