President Thaçi seeks to deepen cooperation with the Latin American Parliament (Telegrafi)

The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, met on Monday in Panama the Secretary General of the Latin American Parliament, based in Panama, Elias Castillo. President Thaçi expressed his interest in establishing a Friendship Group in the Panamanian National Assembly and also the possibility of Kosovo’s membership as an observer in the Latin American Parliament, known as Parlatino."To Kosovo, Panama is the center of Latin America. It is among the first countries to have recognized Kosovo, therefore we have opened our embassy here.

LDK MP Osmani calls for Assembly session to discuss demarcation issue (Telegrafi)

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP, Vjosa Osmani, during the meeting of the government commission on European integration today called for an Assembly session where experts would be invited to discuss the border-demarcation issue with Montenegro. Osmani said this was not the first time that the border-demarcation committee members are being invited to discuss the border-demarcation issue, but they did not respond to the invitation.

Kosovo’s President, Hashim Thaçi, will meet today in Brussels the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini and president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz. Sources within the presidency told the news site that President Thaçi will emphasize Kosovo’s commitment to Euro-Atlantic integration and its role as a “factor of stability and good neighbourliness in the region.” Sources also said that President Thaçi will ask from EU senior officials to accelerate the visa liberalisation process for Kosovo citizens.

It was hailed as one of the shining achievements of EU diplomacy and soft power – a supposed reconciliation between two formerly warring parties. Baroness Ashton, then the EU’s high representative for foreign policy, was hailed for her negotiating prowess. Ivica Dacic (a former spokesman of Serbia’s dictator Slobodan Milosevic) and Hashim Thaci (former political leader of the opposing Kosovo Liberation Army) were even mentioned for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Source: Assembly could meet tomorrow to extend EULEX mandate (Telegrafi)

Citing an unnamed source in the Kosovo Assembly, the news site reports on a possible extraordinary session of the Assembly on Tuesday to extend the mandate of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX). “Although nothing is certain yet, there are rumours that an extraordinary session could be held tomorrow,” the source said.

17 years since UNSC resolution 1244 came into force (Telegrafi)

On 10 June 1999, then NATO Secretary General Javier Solana had issued the order for ending airstrikes of Serbian forces and the UN Security Council adopted resolution 1244 which enabled deployment of 37,200 KFOR troops from 36 countries. Solana’s decision came after the signing of the Kumanovo agreement between NATO and then Yugoslavia on 9 June 1999 which then entered into force on 11 June 1999. KFOR was split into five areas of responsibility: American, British, French, German, and Italian.

AAK to return to Assembly only about demarcation issue (Indeksonline)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) deputy leader, Ali Berisha, told a press conference on Wednesday that his party will not participate in the next session of the Kosovo Assembly scheduled for tomorrow.  Berisha said the AAK has decided to boycott the Assembly until the issue of border-demarcation with Montenegro will be addressed in the Assembly.

Vetëvendosje and AKR reach coalition deal in Pristina (Telegrafi)

Vetëvendosje Movement and the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR) have reached a coalition deal in the Municipality of Pristina. The deal gives AKR two municipal directorates, that of culture and agriculture. AKR, in turn, has four seats at the municipal assembly. Vetëvendosje recently reached a coalition deal in Pristina with the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK).

Kosovo government spokesperson and advisor to Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, Faton Abdullahu, told Radio Free Europe that the obstacles posed by Serbia are the main reason of Kosovo’s failure to join international organisations, in particular the European institutions. According to him, with such actions Serbia is violating the fundamental principles of EU membership. “Serbia’s approach is completely unacceptable. It is a dangerous approach in terms of security and peace in the region.
