Jan Kavan: EU cannot use Kosovo as ultimatum (Vecernje Novosti)

Petition against the independence of Kosovo is a reminder of violence against the law, and one must not pressure Serbian side only, former head of Czech diplomacy and UN General Assembly Chairman, Jan Kavan told Vecernje Novosti daily.

We have decided to sign a petition on Czech withdrawal of Kosovo recognition to once more point out an unacceptable precedent of unilaterally declared independence of the part of the Serbian territory, 10 years ago, he added.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with USA President Donald Trump in New York and invited him to come to an official visit to Serbia.

According to unofficial information, Trump “has accepted the idea” to visit Serbia, B92 reported.

The two presidents, following the UN General Assembly session, spoke several minutes at the reception Trump and his wife organized for the world leaders. Vucic did not make any official statement about it yet.

The dailies report that according to Gazeta Blic portal, the UN mission in Kosovo will have higher competences from June this year, which was qualified by Pristina-based media as the biggest defeat of Kosovo in its attempts to gain more competencies as an independent state. As stated by Gazeta Blic portal, the plan of international community allegedly was adopted by several Committees, while the Budget Committee should adopt it in three to four months.

While the Kosovo Assembly was voting on the constitutional amendments paving way for the establishment of the special court, Prime Minister of Kosovo Isa Mustafa received a letter from President Atifete Jahjaga which angered him and his deputy, Hashim Thaci, a great deal. In the letter President Jahjaga said that based on her constitutional responsibilities, she had decided to lead the Kosovo delegation travelling to New York in end of September to take part at a series of events part of the UN General Assembly week.
