The newly elected chairman of the ‘Friends of Serbia’ informal group in the European Parliament (EP) Emilian Pavel believes that when it came to the recognition of Kosovo, Romania should align its position with that of other European Union members.

The head of Serbia's negotiating team with the EU, Tanja Miscevic said that this week will be in the light of reactions to the latest action plans for Chapters 23 and 24. "First Director for the Western Balkans in the European Commission, Jean Eric Paquet, will talk in Belgrade on the subject at the ministerial level, and then the talks will continue at the technical level. This will be an opportunity to present what has been done in the past in the areas covered by Chapters 23 and 24," said Miscevic.

Political analysts Aleksandra Joksimovic and Dragan Djukanovic agreed that the talks that Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic had in Brussels and Berlin are a step forward in the European integration of our country.

The first chapter in the Serbia's negotiations to join the European Union "could be opened in October, with the consent of Germany."

According to the agency, "agreement has been reached in principle for a formal decision to be taken during the ministerial meeting in September."

"Concrete chapters" would then open in October - something that Germany - "until recently reserved on this issue" - has now reportedly agreed to.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday that he was confident that Serbia would open the first chapters in its EU accession negotiations before the end of the current year.

“I hope and expect that it will happen in September, but I have still not lost hope that we can get the first chapters even earlier. These could be Chapters 23 and 24, concerning the rule of law, 32, which concerns financial control, and Serbia-specific 35 (on Kosovo)," Vucic said for Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) after a ‘Friends of Serbia’ meeting in Brussels.

The head of the negotiating team for negotiations on Serbia's accession to the EU, Tanja Miscevic said today that between Belgrade and Pristina, there is no agreement on the status of Community/Association of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo and added that this dialogue affects the European integration of our country.

Serbia will not fulfil Kosovo's conditions that were not agreed in Brussels, which are additionally placed on the list of demands for the opening of the first negotiating chapters with the EU - said sources of the Serbian national leadership for Vecernje Novosti.

The Croatian and Finnish embassies in Kosovo, during am Education Fair held in Pristina on the occasion of Europe Day, offered different training programs for students from Kosovo.  The education fair, although open for only two hours, has managed to attract a lot of attention from students who think that studying abroad is the best option. Dafina Zherka, Information Officer at the EU Information Center, said that this exhibition aims to inform the Kosovo students to study abroad.

Serbia has formally started accession negotiations with the European Union in January 2014. However, negotiating chapters have not been opened. It is obvious that the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina is one of the most important conditions. How do you assess this approach of the EU?

Brussels-based correspondent Augustin Palokaj notes in his opinion piece that “the European Union and NATO have invested so much energy and attention to the ‘name issue’ that for years they have ignored the real and increasing problems in Macedonia”. According to Palokaj, “NATO and the EU have proved powerless vis-à-vis an irrational Greek blockade, and at the same time they have kept silent over the degradation of democracy and the corruption in Macedonia”. “Now we have the latest case in Kumanovo, and no one knows what has happened exactly.
