Opposition demands the government to cease any activity related to special court (Koha)

The leaders of the opposition parties through an open letter addressed to the President Atifete Jahjaga, Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci, demanded the government of Kosovo to immediately cease any activity related to the special court. The letter stressed that the constitutional amendments for the establishment of the special court violate the constitutional provisions regarding the sovereignty of judiciary.

Jahjaga to attend the Summit of Business leaders in Slovenia (RTKlive)

Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, on 1 and 2 June will attend the Summit of Business leaders of Southeast Europe in Portoroz, Slovenia.  Opportunities for regional co-operation in the fields of energy, tourism, transport and infrastructure, and the financial sector, particularly the role of smart cities in economic development are the main themes of this Summit.

“Thinking of You” campaign aims to break the silence of women victims of sexual violence (Koha)

Kosovo London-based artist Alketa Xhafa – Mripa will bring to a close the campaign titled “Thinking of You” launched a month ago for collecting dresses to support women raped during the conflict in Kosovo. Xhafa-Mripa is touring Kosovo to raise awareness for the women victims of rape. The campaign is being supported by women association as well as the President, Atifete Jahjaga. She said that while the National Council for Survivors of Sexual Violence has been established last year, the next step is raising the society’s awareness on this issue.

Jahjaga: Balkan countries stand united in aspiration of EU membership (Klan Kosova)

Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, said today during the Summit of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Tirana that the countries of the Balkans stand united in their aspiration of European Union membership. “This has been possible only through opening of the European perspective for every one of us, because in essence, this has been a step which has helped us overcome the consequences of the past and which has made the need to cooperate a necessity.

Jahjaga: Serbia not to support illegal structures in Kosovo (Kosovapress)

Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, said that Serbia should stop supporting illegal structures in Kosovo, especially in the northern part of Kosovo. In addition she required that the citizens of Serb community to be helped to integrate into Kosovo’s social and institutional life. While talking about the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, Jahjaga highlighted the importance of the implementation of agreements reached and further engagement towards full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

Jahjaga swears in new judges (RTK)

President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga has today sworn in 41 new judges that will begin work in different Kosovo courts. Jahjaga asked the new judges to be independent, professional and honest in their work. “The time has come to see a justice system that functions on the principle that no one is above the law. This is the only way to increase the citizens’ trust in our justice system,” said Jahjaga on the occasion.

President Jahjaga refuses Brazil visa (Lajmi)

President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, was officially invited to take part in the Women’s World Summit that begins today in Sao Paolo, Brazil but Jahjaga canceled her participation after refusing conditions set by Brazilian authorities for granting her a visa. Jahjaga said the visa requirements were unacceptable. “President Jahjaga represents the state of Kosovo in any visit abroad, regardless of whether it is a summit, a conference, a multirateral or a bilateral meeting,” said Jahjaga’s advisor, Arber Vllahiu.

Kosovars in Kumanovo (Kosova Sot)

The paper’s front-page editorial notes that Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga and Prime Minister Isa Mustafa have called on the FYROM authorities to conduct transparent and credible investigations into the Kumanovo clashes, “but first they [Jahjaga and Mustafa] should ask our own security mechanisms what they know about several Kosovars who were involved in the latest events there”.

Kosovo Condemns Any Involvement Of Citizens In Macedonia Clashes (RFE)

Kosovo's leaders have condemned "any involvement" of the territory's citizens in a weekend gunbattle in neighboring Macedonia that left eight police officers and 14 suspected gunmen dead.

Kosovo's President Atifete Jahjaga and Prime Minister Isa Mustafa issued the condemnation in a joint statement on May 11, as Macedonia was observing a second day of national mourning after the shoot-out in the town of Kumanovo.
