Nikolic: Missing Serbs issue should be resolved systemically (Tanjug, IRS)

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and representatives of the Coordination of the Serbian Associations of Families of Missing Persons from the Territory of Former Yugoslavia agreed Wednesday that it was necessary to adopt a systemic approach to resolving the issue of search for the Serbs who went missing during the wars in the former Yugoslavia in 1990s.

The representatives of families of missing persons spoke to Nikolic about problems they faced in attempts to determine the fate of their loved ones, the president’s press office said in a release.

Kosovo granted full IOC membership (Tanjug)

MONACO - Kosovo has been granted full International Olympic Committee (IOC) membership, the IOC decided in its session held Tuesday in Monaco.

This paves the way for Kosovo to participate in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the IOC said

The IOC started reviewing Kosovo's bid for IOC membership five years ago, a year after the southern province of Serbia unilaterally declared independence in 2008.

Kosovo is recognized as a country by 108 UN Member States, but not by Serbia.

Mayor of Zubin Potok ordered one month house arrest (Tanjug)

Mayor of Zubin Potok Stevan Vulovic has been ordered 30 days of house arrest, carried Pristina-based media quoting EULEX spokesperson Dragana Nikolic-Solomon.

Vulovic was questioned yesterday for several hours at the Basic Court in Norh Mitrovica, due to suspicions for organizing an escape of Slobodan Sovrlic from the police station in Zubin Potok in March this year, when a group of citizens entered police station and forcefully released Sovrlic.

Association of Djakovica citizens want Serb homes rebuilt (Tanjug)

BELGRADE - The Association of Djakovica Citizens has stated that the demolished Serb homes in that town in southwestern Kosovo should be rebuilt to allow 12,000 Serbs to return there, because Kosovo's future lies in multiethnicity.

The association reacted to a recent statement by Djakovica Mayor Mimoza Kusari Ljilja that the demolition of Serb homes was not a political issue by pointing out that Kosovo's future cannot be built on the suffering on 230,000 Serbs driven out of Kosovo.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday that Serbia "does not give up on its European path or its territorial integrity."

NEW YORK -- Violence against Serbs in Kosovo and desecration of Orthodox monasteries "are a clear evidence of persisting ethnic strife in the Kosovo Albanian society."

This is according to Russia’s Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin, quoted by TASS, who late on Thursday took part in in a UN Security Council session dedicated to Kosovo.

NEW YORK - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic will meet with the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon on Thursday, and he will also address the UN Security Council session on Kosovo later this evening, the Serbian government's Office for cooperation with the media released.
