Actions, not words (Kosova Sot)

The front page editorial of this daily notes that when the government announces that it will end monopolies on business, it is not that it is doing a miracle, but it is only promising to fulfill a legal and constitutional obligation. The Constitution of Kosovo guarantees equal competition in the free market, however, the situation in Kosovo is completely different. Oligarchic businesses, using their connections with the government, are continuously harming the decent businesses which want to grow and develop through a dignified competition.

Dialogue with Serbia will last at least ten years (Koha Ditore)

The Brussels Based correspondent of this daily, Augustin Palokaj, numbers the senior political figures of Kosovo, their assistants and the technical teams that are involved in the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, stressing that their frequent traveling to Brussels costs a fortune to Kosovo. “The problem with this dialogue stands in the fact that it has started with many obscurities and propaganda, without verifying mechanisms of what should implement, and it will continue like this without a set date for its conclusion,” writes Palokaj.

Hoti: Djuric is not participating at the protest in Mitrovica (lajmi.net)

Despite the announcement of Marko Djuric, chief of the Office for Kosovo at the Government of Serbia, Kosovo Police has not registered his presence in Mitrovica. Deputy Director of Kosovo Police in the North, Besim Hoti, informed that Djuric is participating in the protest. According to him, reporting of some local media that Djuric entered Kosovo escorted by Serbian Gendarmerie, is only a speculation. “Officially, Marko Djuric is not in Mitrovica.

Poor rule of law in Kosovo (RTK2)

Numerous complains addressed to the Kosovo Ombudsman are prove that rule of law in Kosovo is at the low level, said participants in a debate that took place in Media Center in Čaglavica.

Kosovo Ombudsman report reads that his office has received 2.224 complaints or requests for legal aid, what is assessed by some participants as the prove for the poor rule of law in Kosovo.

SG Ban concerned with delays in establishment of special court (RTK)

In his recent quarterly report on Kosovo, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed concerns over delays in establishment of special court by the Kosovo Assembly which he said undermine Kosovo’s image and present lost opportunities to set an example of justice and accountability. The report covers the period between 16 April and 15 July and was sent to the members of the Security Council before the Kosovo Assembly approved the amendment paving way for establishment of special court.

EPS not to lay off workers (RTK2)

The Director General of the Energy Corporation of Serbia (EPS) Aleksandar Obradović paid a visit to Gračanica/Graçanicë local authorities yesterday where he discussed current state of affairs of EPS in Kosovo with local authorities. Obradović said that not a single employee of the EPS will be laid off, and added that Serbia will not give up on them. “There were rumors that EPS will give up on its employees, that there are no plans for fighting for tis property here.

Schwendiman: I might become special prosecutor for war crimes in Kosovo (Danas)

Lead Prosecutor of the Special Investigative Task Force (SITF) that investigates war crimes and organized crime allegations deriving from the Council of Europe special rapporteur Dick Marty’s report, David Schwendiman, said to Danas that amendments and the law adopted by the Kosovo parliament on 3 August provides that SITF lead prosecutor could be appointed as a special prosecutor.
