Preshevo Valley also seeks ‘autonomy’ (RTK)
The Albanian National Council in the Preshevo Valley has reacted following the signing of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia on the establishment of the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities last night in Brussels. The Council expressed deep indignation over the position of the Albanian community in Preshevo Valley and calls for concrete and coordinated actions in addressing issues that are vital to Albanians living in the area. The Council argues that Preshevo Valley should have its own administrative-territorial arrangement that would include rights in the field of judiciary, police, education, use of language and national symbols, healthcare, economic development, culture, local and spatial planning, and so on. The Albanian National Council called on the Preshevo Valley political leadership to speak in one voice and undertake necessary political steps to achieve the right to self-determination. “In this sense, we urge Republic of Albania and Republic of Kosovo to lend their unreserved support and at the same time set up an urgent fund for Preshevo Valley,” a statement from the Council said. It also called on the international community to establish physical presence in the Valley.
