Apostolova: Special Court is not related to visa liberalization (Koha)

Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Natliya Apostolova, met today with the head of parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi and heads of three Assembly committees led by this political party. She said that their presence today shows that they are pledged to help Kosovo in the European path. Apostolova said that loss of three months on establishment of institutions was major on fulfilling the European agenda. EU chief added that the main document, on which the cooperation will be built, is Stabilisation Association Agreement, however, she stressed that Kosovo will be facing obstacles on its path to EU. She called on the Assembly of Kosovo to endorse draft laws despite the fact that political parties are busy with campaign, and also on opposition parties to be constructive. She expressed concern with regards to some delayed reforms and nepotism aton nomination of boards at a great number of independent agencies. Head of the committee for public administration, local government and media, Nait Hasani, said that EU’s conditions for liberalization of visas, such as Special Court, demarcation and corruption are not fair. Apostolova replied saying that liberalization of visas is not related to the Special Court or creation of army. She said these polemics should be avoided, and that the Special Court should be left to do its job. She noted that demarcation is not a political condition set to keep Kosovo away from visa liberalization but a technical one, and stressed that politicization of this matter is sad, adding that if the conditions were fulfilled Kosovo would have been at a different stage now. Apostolova said that it is not possible for the EU to change criteria and that demarcation of the border with Montenegro will remain a condition.
