New elections, more than necessary (Koha Ditore)
The paper’s columnist Halil Matoshi writes in an opinion piece that as soon as the special court for war crimes files the first indictments against the former KLA fighters, not only opposition and the citizens, but also the international community will pressure the government to announce early elections, no later than autumn this year. Matoshi further writes that the request of the Serbian List for a new Serb-majority municipality in Kosovo seems to be linked with Hashim Thaci’s election as Kosovo president. “There must be some reciprocity in these political agreements. In this case, Serb representatives should have pledged to vote for the establishment of the Kosovo Army. If there is no reciprocity in these agreements, then those are just favors for personal benefits. It remains to be seen whether the Serbian List is ready to make compromises and return the favor,” Matoshi writes. “Elections are more than necessary to restore the legitimacy of the government and to resolve the political crisis which started nearly two years ago.”
