“We agreed to pay 100 percent taxes, and then excuse was the address” (Tanjug, KIM Radio)
There are no daily Serbian newspapers in Kosovo today either, Tanjug news agency reports.
Zvezdan Mihajlovic from “KIM Beokolp” company, responsible for distribution of the Serbian newspapers in Kosovo, told Tanjug news agency that Kosovo customs officials did not allow transport of the newspapers through Jarinje crossing point, due to allegedly irregular documentation.
“We have accepted to pay tax of 100 percent, and then they used as an excuse not to let us pass the address where our company is registered. It is registered in Mitrovica North, and not as they claim, based on Kosovo government instruction, that the company should be registered in Republic of Kosovo,” Mihajlovic explained.
He also added that the company since November 7 was paying additional taxes of 10 percent that Pristina authorities imposed earlier.
Meanwhile, Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) and Association of Journalists of Kosovo and Metohija (DNKiM) in the strongest terms condemned increase of taxes by 100 percent for the press from Serbia.
They noted it is a flagrant violation of the citizens’ right to information, and that distribution of information must be free from all limitations, be it of economic or political nature.
Both associations urged Pristina to enable free distribution of Serbian newspapers without further delay. They also noted that this obstacle seriously endangers the right of the Serbian people to information in their mother tongue, given that there is no single daily or weekly newspapers in Serbian, that is being printed in Kosovo.
They also added, they would inform about this situation the International and European Federation of Journalists.
