Mogherini on the developments in Kosovo, Hahn on the "attempt to unblock the dialogue" (B92, Beta)
EU High Representative Federica Mogherini says in Brussels that yesterday's events show that the status quo between Serbia and Kosovo is not sustainable, reports portal B92, quoting Beta news agency.
At a press conference on the occasion of the presenting the annual EU package on the progress of the countries of the Western Balkans, Mogherini said that she hoped the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina would be soon restored and added that she was in constant contact with both sides.
"I am convinced that the agreement is possible, if the conditions for the continuation of negotiations are reached at the highest level, but it is necessary to fulfil the preconditions for this, first of all, to abolish the Kosovo tax on goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina," Mogherini said.
She said that at the Summit of the Brdo-Brioni Process three weeks ago in Tirana, she talked with the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci, adding that she was confident that "both sides were aware of their interests".
At the same press conference, European Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn said he would "try to unblock" the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina in June in order that "something was achieved in July".
He assessed as positive the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's appearance at the session of the Serbian Assembly on Kosovo on Monday.
After journalist's remark that Vucic yesterday ordered full combat readiness of the Serbian Armed Forces following the action of Kosovo Special Police in northern Kosovo, Hahn said that he spoke about Vucic's appearance in parliament "a few days ago, before yesterday's events."
